Following a few leaks, EA has officially announced the planting of Plants vs Zombies: Replanted, a remaster of the very first Plants vs Zombies game released over 16 years ago.

Just like before, you’ll be tasked with planting various types of leafy greenery to fend off the zombie hordes. Except now, you’ll be able to do it with friends in new local co-op and PVP modes. Visually, this appears to be a fairly basic remaster, based on the description. According to the press release, Replanted will feature “upscaled HD graphics”.

Speaking to IGN, Popcap’s general manager Nick Reinhart was asked if this is some sort of reset for the series, to which he said “I think that’s an interesting way to sort of frame the question. What I would say is that I think it’s more of a reacknowledgement of what our roots are, and what sort of games we should be thinking about and what we should be making.”

The Plants vs Zombies brand is going through a tricky time right now. The series got a third-person multiplayer spinoff in the Garden Warfare games, and then Plants vs Zombies 3 was released in early 2024. However, it was then taken offline in October of the same year for a “major overhaul” and hasn’t been seen since.

“My official answer here is that I don’t have anything to say about PvZ 3 at the moment,” Reinhart told IGN.
