I really didn’t see this one coming at the latest PlayStation State of Play: Sony has teamed up with Arc System Works to create a brand new fighting game set in the Marvel Universe

The new game – due to launch sometime in 2026 for PS5, Steam and Epic – features Japanese versions of classic Marvel heroes and villains battling it out in 4v4 tag-team action.

Apparently, it was Sony that approached Arc System Works and Marvel with the idea.

“From the beginning, we aimed to make MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls a title that could be enjoyed by a wide variety of players,” said Game Director and Lead Battle Designer, Kazuto Sekine.

”Generally, a team VS fighting game requires the player to learn multiple characters, but for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, you only need to master one character in order to play the game. We have designed the mechanics in such a way that you can perform a variety of actions with either traditional fighting game inputs or simple inputs. With the press of a few buttons, multiple characters can appear on screen to provide backup or attack together – creating a new and exciting team VS battle experience.”

The gorgeous trailer shows off Arc System Work’s beautiful style, and gives us a pretty solid look at the gameplay. It looks like you can blast fighters off the screen into other arenas.

So far, the confirmed characters are:

Captain America
Spider-Man
Star Lord
Storm
Doctor Doom
Ghost Rider
Ms. Marvel
Ghost Rider
