PlayStation has announced what games will be joining its PlayStation Plus Extra catalogue this month, and as usual the list also includes a couple of classic titles being added to Premium.

First up, we’re getting an old-school adventure in the form of Indiana Jonest and the Staff of Kings. This classic Indy game was developed by LucasArts and came to PlayStation 2 back in 2009 where it was recieved with fairly middling reviews.

Like previous emulated release, this version contains some notable upgrades.

“Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, originally released in 2009 on PlayStation 2, takes you on a perilous, around-the-world quest for the staff of Moses. This classic third-person action adventure has been enhanced with up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters. Grab your whip and get ready for a thrilling journey in true Indiana Jones tradition.”

Presumably Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings was chosen as a way to tie-in with the recent release of the excellent Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which will come to PS5 this year.

The other game joining the service is Medievil 2. The first game was, of course, released in remastered form a while back, so it’s nice to see the sequel become more readily playable, even if it isn’t getting the full remaster treatment.

MediEvil 2 trailer (PS1)

“The sequel to MediEvil released on the original PlayStation in 2000. In this new and improved version, featuring up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters, you’ll have to challenge the powers of darkness and untold magic as Sir Daniel Fortesque returns from the grave to thwart an evil sorcerer’s plans. Arm yourself with a mighty arsenal of weapons, including swords, daggers, crossbows, hammers, and even the occasional chicken drumstick. Solve fiendish puzzles and riddles, face ghoulish enemies that will strike fear into the bravest of souls, all of it set to a spine-tingling soundtrack.”

As per usual, the official blog post is missing a couple of details. First, Trophy support isn’t mentioned. This has varied quite a bit from release to release. It’s fairly safe to assume Medievil 2 will have full Trophy support as all the other PlayStation first-party titles have benefited from it. Indiana Jones, however, is more uncertain.

And secondly, the post does not confirm if the two games will be available to purchase separately or if they will only be available through a Premium subscription. Again, this has varied in the past.

Both games should be available from January 21.
