Leading up to Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls being playable at EVO 2025 this weekend, developer Arc System Works has released a new trailer for the upcoming fighting game, giving players a rundown on how the game is played and introducing some of its characters. Check it out below.

To kick things off, the trailer first explains the various UI elements in a typical match, and how they affect gameplay mechanics. Along with the standard health gauge – dubbed the Vital Gauge in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls – players will also see the Assemble Gauge right under the Vital Gauge, and is used for mechanics related to calling in assists from your partners. The bottom of the screen is lined with the Skill Gauge, which can be used to pull off stronger versions of your character’s attacks.

The video then goes into detail about how matches are structured. The first round of any given match in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls starts off in a 2v2 format. Things can quickly change, however, if a player is able to successfully throw their opponent or pull off specific special moves in precise locations. This sends the opponent flying, while also triggering a stage transition, and in turn, adding the third and fourth allies to the player’s line-up. Bringing in allies also has the benefit of raising your Vital Gauge.

After these things are explained, the video goes on to explain the basics of gameplay for fighting games, before going into some of the more unique mechanics that are typically associated with tag-based fighters, such as tagging in allies or simply calling them in for a support move. The video also goes into detail about how its Link Combos work, allowing players to keep hitting a single attack button to get a full combo and finisher out.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is coming to PC and PS5. Unfortunately, the title doesn’t yet have a release date. In the meantime, check out its announcement trailer.
