The endgame for Borderlands 4 has officially been revealed, but what about post-launch support? Gearbox already confirmed free updates and two story packs, and during PAX West, it outlined a proper roadmap for what to expect.

The first update drops in Q4 2025 and adds a free new mini-event, Horrors of Kairos, with new Legendary weapons, cosmetics, and a weather variant. Bounty Pack 1 releases in the same quarter, adding a Vault Card with four pieces of “rerollable gear,” 24 cosmetics, new Legendary gear, new missions, and a new boss.

The second free update sees the first Invincible boss added to the title alongside a high-level boss variant and a new arena. Another difficulty level is also coming to Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode alongside new Legendaries. Q1 2026 sees the arrival of Bounty Pack 2 with another new boss, missions, Legendary gear, and Vault Card, but Pearlescent rarity items are also arriving for free.

Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned is the first Story Pack, launching later in the same period, and adds Ellie as a new Vault Hunter. It will also include new main story missions, side quests, a new map zone, legendaries, and more cosmetics. As for future content, including new Invincible bosses, they’ll launch “beyond Q1 2026.”

Launching on September 12th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC (October 3rd on Nintendo Switch 2), Borderlands 4 is the first mainline title in the franchise since 2019. It’s been in development for six years, and its budget is over twice that of Borderlands 3.
