The Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake/remaster feels like an open secret at this point, having been leaked numerous times. In fact, just recently, Edward Kenway’s own voice actor seemed to heavily tease its existence. And now, Ubisoft has updated the original Black Flag’s Steam page with new features that the game does not have.

Allow me to explain: as brought to our attention by @TheHiddenOneAC on X, Ubisoft has updated the Steam listing for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, adding categories for things like “Save Anytime”, “Adjustable Difficulty” and “Mouse Only Option”. You can see these changes on SteamDB.

The key to this story is that these features are not currently available in the game. You can’t manually save in Black Flag, instead it autosaves at checkpoints. Nor does it have a mouse only option.

The theory here is that these updates are actually for the upcoming remake or remaster of Black Flag, and that it will completely replace the original game when it launches. That would be a bold move, as Ubisoft – along with other companies – typically face some backlash for removing the original version of a game and replacing it.

Prior to the actor for Edward Kenway leaking it, a Black Flag remake/remaster was leaked by someone on LinkedIn who listed it before said post was removed. Ubisoft themselves have also confirmed that are working on some Assassin’s Creed remakes, but stopped short of naming which ones.

Currently, it’s believed the remake is scheduled for later this year, but the delay of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows may have potentially pushed it back to 2026.
