Ubisoft Boss Confirms A New Ghost Recon Game Is Coming, Likely To Be Live-Service & An FPS – GPlayr

Ubisoft head-honcho Yves Guillemot has, for the first time, publically referenced that a new Ghost Recon game is in the works.

A new entry in the series has been rumoured for some time now. Reliable insiders have indicated that the new game will be a first-person shooter, a massive change for the series which has always been 3rd person. It’s currently expected to release in late 2026.

Yves Guillemot himself directly referred to the game during the latest shareholder meeting.

However, there may be some bad news because the context surrounding Yves comments suggest the next Ghost Recon game will be of the live-service variety.

A shareholder asked about Ubisoft’s history of making live-service games, to which Guillemot replied by pointing out the success of Rainbow Six: Siege (probably while mentally trying to block out the existence of XDefiant and Skull & Bones) and the saying that, “In addition to the flagship game that I just mentioned, our objective is to also make strong progress in the growing market, generally speaking, by continuing to enhance our current experiences that we offer – and capitalising on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon.”

Later on in the same meeting, it was seemingly confirmed that the new Ghost Recon will also be first-person. Frederick Douget, Chief Corporate Financial Officer, addressed the topic of how Tencent’s investment money will be used in the new spinoff company. He explained it would be used “used for the development of other major brand names” and that “Ghost Recon is just one example, for our first-person shooter type games.”

The last game in the series was Ghost Recon: Breakpoint in 2019 and it did offer a first-person view, but it was entirely optional.
