With the release of Dying Light: The Beast being just over the horizon, developer Techland has released a new video featuring all of the various voice actors for protagonist Kyle Crane across different languages. The video, which you can check out below, features all of the voice actors playfully arguing about who can lay claim to be the real Kyle Crane.
The video features English voice actor Roger Craig Smith, German voice actor Tino Kießling, Brazilian Portuguese voice actor Fábio Azevedo, Japanese voice actor Daichi Endo, Russian voice actor Anatoliy Nox, French voice actor Mario Bastelica, Spanish voice actor David Robles, Simplified Chinese voice actor Yuhang Wang, and Polish voice actor Szymon Mysłakowski. Throughout the video, all of the voice actors try to lay claim to the title of the “real Kyle Crane” by quoting voice lines from throughout the upcoming title in their respective languages.
Of the voice actors, Smith, Kießling, Azevedo, Endo and Nox are reprising their roles as Kyle Crane. Bastelica, Robles, Wang and Mysłakowski are the new additions to the voice acting team as Techland goes for a broader release with its localisation efforts for more languages. In a humourous twist, all of the voice actors throw out various cuss words while in character as Kyle Crane, with Techland noting that the video features a total of 232 F-bombs in various languages.
Offering more insight into the character of Kyle Crane, his legend and his legacy, Techland had released a developer diary earlier this week that explored the character. Featuring franchise director Tymon Smektala, the video explored how Crane has changed as a character since the events of the original Dying Light and its The Following expansion, which involved him getting captured by The Baron.
In Dying Light: The Beast, Crane will once more get to take on the forces of The Baron as he finds and helps people who have been oppressed by the antagonist. To do this, the character will tap into an immense level of rage, as well as his new-found powers to lay waste to those that might get in his way.
The studio had also offered some insight into the design of Kyle Crane with a blog post from last month, going into detail about how much work the artists went through to land on the design that we ultimately will get to see in Dying Light: The Beast. In this post, the studio noted that every aspect of Crane’s new design was a deliberate decision, and even his outfit and gear wasn’t randomly thrown together.
The new design of the character also features some more subtle hints about his newfound duality, with half of him representing the human side while the other represents the titular Beast. To do this, the studio also created brand new animations for Kyle Crane that, while not reusing the ones from the original Dying Light, were still heavily inspired by them.
Dying Light: The Beast is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox series X/S on September 19. A release is also planned for PS4 and Xbox One at a later date. For more details on the PC release, check out the hardware requirements.
