Take-Two Interactive Software has sold independent games-focused publishing label Private Division to an undisclosed buyer as it shifts to a focus on larger projects, the company announced. Take-Two Interactive Software CEO Strauss Zelnick told GamesIndustry.biz the buyer will be disclosed “relatively soon.”
The purchase includes the Private Division label and all of its live and unreleased projects. Take-Two Interactive Software, however, will continue to support Moon Studios‘ action RPG No Rest for the Wicked, which launched under the label in Early Access for PC via Steam on April 18, and is planned for a full release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
Currently, Private Division and developer Weta Workshop are planning to release single-player life simulation game Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC via Steam on March 25, 2025
Back in May, Bloomberg reported that Take-Two Interactive Software planned to close Private Division subsidiary studios Roll7 and Intercept Games, which Zelnick denied, despite documents stating otherwise. However, with today’s announcement, a Take-Two Interactive Software spokesperson has confirmed that both Roll7 and Intercept Games were closed prior to the sale of Private Division.
