After hitting one million players in its first day, Rematch has achieved five million unique players roughly a month after launch. Developed by Sloclap, known for Sifu, the competitive football title is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It’s also included with Game Pass.
Unlike FIFA, Rematch offers a more arcade-like take on football with no offsides or fouls. You control a single player, competing alongside others in 3v3, 4v4 and 5v5 matches. Though it didn’t quite reach the highs of its betas, the Steam concurrent player count peaked at a respectable 92,841 last month.
Of course, Rematch has received criticism for the lack of crossplay and player reporting. Fortunately, both of these features will be available in September when Season 1 drops (the former potentially earlier). Sloclap is also targeting a patch for this week to add remappable controls for gamepads, colorblindness options, and bug fixes.
Stay tuned for more details when the patch notes become available, and check out our review in the meantime.
