The PlayStation 5 got a price hike earlier this year in multiple territories, but the US market was surprisingly safe. However, it was only a brief respite because Sony has now announced that the US prices are also going up on August 21.
Every model of PS5 is getting a $50 increase, meaning the cheapest entry point is now $500 which gets you the Digital Edition.
Console Edition | Previous Price (USD) | New Price (USD) | Price Increase (USD) |
---|---|---|---|
PlayStation 5 | $499.99 | $549.99 | +$50 |
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition | $449.99 | $499.99 | +$50 |
PlayStation 5 Pro | $699.99 | $749.99 | +$50 |
Accessories are safe for now.
“Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21,” said Sony while being massaged by a looming Kratos.
Of course, Sony isn’t the only one raising prices as both Microsoft and Nintendo have bumped up the price of their hardware too. This has been the only generation of console where it is actually more expensive to buy one now than it was when they first launched.
