Project Century Fan Speculation is All Wrong, RGG Studio Boss Says

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio continues to be one of the busiest studios around. Less than a couple of months from now, the Japanese developer is set to release Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, while at The Game Awards in December, it also announced not one, but two new titles in a new Virtua Fighter game and a new game known only as Project Century.

The latter in particular has sparked plenty of fan theories and speculation, with Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega having little to no information on what Project Century is. Its brief reveal trailer confirmed that the game will be set in 1915 Japan, based on which many have speculated that the game could be a prequel to the Like a Dragon / Yakuza series. That said, based on RGG Studio boss Masayoshi Yokoyama’s recent statements, that might not be the case.

Spotted by Automaton Media, during a live broadcast last week, Yokoyama stated that all speculation and theories from fans on what Project Century is have been wrong so far. He also added that RGG Studio made sure not to include any details or tidbits in the trailer that could give that information away.

“We didn’t include any information that would enable people to guess,” Yokoyama said.

How long it’ll be before the developer chooses to fully lift the lid on Project Century remains to be seen, but based on its track record, it’s certainly earned its fair share of goodwill.

In the meantime, RGG Studio’s next game, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC on February 21.
