According to those boffins over at Bethesda Game Studios, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has broken the 9 million player barrier. That’s a lot of mud crabs getting pummelled, emperor’s getting stabbed and Khajit that have wares.
Of course, the sharp-eyed among you will have noticed that it’s 9 million players and not 9 million sales. As ever, Microsoft only shares total players these days, which is great for their own metrics of success but slightly annoying for the rest of us. Ah well.
“To everyone who emerged as a hero of Kvatch, mastered Arch-Mage, rose to Grand Champion, banished the Blackwood Company, gallivanted as the Gray Fox, and listened to the Night.” said Bethesda Game Studios on X. “Thank you for sharing in our worlds.”
We do know that earlier this year, Oblivion was ranking as the 3rd best-selling game of 2025, only being beaten by Assassin’s Creed: Shadows and Monster Hunter: Wilds.
Launching on Game Pass undoubtedly means a lot of people won’t have bought the game, but it also came out on PlayStation and seems to have sold well there. Over on Alinea Analytics, their frequent updates regarding Steam numbers suggest it sold at least 2+ million copies on that platform.
Sadly, Virtous, the company which developed the remaster, had their success rewarded by a round of layoffs. Around 270 people were impacted across the globe-spanning company.
