Stop right there, criminal scum! Because just one week after being shadow-dropped like an Oblivion gate spawning outside of Bruma, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is already the 3rd best-selling game of the year.

That is according to Mat Piscatella, executive director & video game industry analyst at Circana. The latest detail, which accounts for both digital and physical sales, puts The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in 3rd place, behind Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

After just one week in market (w/e 4.26) Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Remastered is already the 3rd best-selling game of 2025 in the US ($ sales) trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. It was the best-selling game of the week. Source: Circana Retail Tracking Service— Mat Piscatella (@matpiscatella.bsky.social) 5 May 2025 at 16:27

Impressively, the Circana data is based on dollar sales amounts and the Oblivion remaster costs just $50, compared to Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows which are both $70 games.

Everything is pointing toward the release being a massive success. Just days after launching, Bethesda and Virtous announced that had hit 4 million players. The Steam numbers were impressive, too. But now we know it isn’t just people playing on Game Pass – plenty of copies have been sold, too.

Of course, Oblivion may not hold onto its position as here are some massive games to be released this year which might knock it down a few spots.

As for me, I’m having a blast playing it. While Skyrim is a lot of fun, Oblivion is my favourite of the “modern” Elder Scrolls games. A full review is coming soon.
