MindsEye Hotfix With Performance Improvements Detailed, Out Later This Week

Developer Build A Rocket Boy has announced that MindsEye will be getting another hotfix later this week. In its announcement, the studio notes that its priority right now is on improving the overall performance of MindsEye across all platforms. The PC version of the game will be getting the update first, followed by a rollout for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions.

The update will include a number of fixes to help improve the game’s performance, including memory optimisations, optimisations on the CPU and GPU front, the option for players to disable or modify the in-game depth of field effect, and pop-up warnings for the PC version of the game if a player starts MindsEye up while having features like Accelerated GPU Scheduling disabled or having CPUs that might have issues with the game.

Along with this, the update will also include improvements to the mini-games in MindsEye, including reducing the difficulty for the CPR mini-game, and fixing control issues in the MineHunter and Run Dungeon mini-games.

“Right now, our top priority is game performance,” wrote the studio. “We understand that the requirements are high and have limited the experience for many of you, and for this, we sincerely apologize.”

Build A Rocket Boy has also confirmed that this hotfix will only be the first one of a planned series of updates. More details about what we can expect from these future updates will be released later on, however. In the meantime, PC players can now also access Build.MindsEye, giving players access to the robust set of creation tools available directly in the game.

The studio had spoken about working on an update to improve the game’s performance earlier this week, noting that it was also working on a bigger update down the line, dubbed Update 3. Taking to Reddit, the developer wrote about its engineering team working “around the clock” to bring performance improvements to the game, as well as integrating newer features from Unreal Engine 5.6.

“We understand that the current minimum spec requirements are very high, but our engineering team is working around the clock to improve performance on mainstream hardware as well as consoles by integrating the performance improvements in Unreal Engine V5.6,” wrote the studio on Reddit.

MindsEye was released on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S earlier this week. At the time of writing, critical reception of the game has been quite mixed. In our own review, we gave it a score of 5 out of 10, praising its gorgeous visuals but criticising bland gameplay and brain-dead enemy AI, among other things.

At the time of publishing, MindsEye on Steam currently sits at an aggregate rating of “Mixed”, with only 40 percent of the 1,257 user reviews on the title’s Steam page being positive. The title hasn’t been doing too well on the player count front either, with 580 concurrent players at the time of publishing, and an all-time peak of 3,302 when MindsEye first came out, according to SteamDB.

How the need for these updates will impact the timetable noted in the MindsEye roadmap is currently unknown.
