Horizon Zero Dawn Is Getting The Movie Treatment – GPlayr

Sony is continuing its plans for world domination via the Horizon franchise, this time announcing that Aloy is coming to the big screen in a movie adaption.

The Horizon games were previously going to be turned into a live-action series on Netflix, but plans have seemingly changed as PS production’s boss Asad Qizilbash relayed at CES 2025.

Who would you cast as Aloy?

“Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions are at the early stages of developing a film adaptation of the award-winning Horizon Zero Dawn” said Asad onstage.

“Just imagine, Aloy’s beloved origin story set in a vibrant, far future world filled with the giant machines, brought to you for the first time on the big screen.”

No director was announced and no casting was revealed though, so quite honestly there’s every chance the movie will never happen.

A Helldivers movie was also revealed at the same event.

The Horizon series is, of course, currently the apple of Sony’s eye and when you consider the numbers it’s easy to see why: Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West have sold a combined 34 million units. As such, there are reportedly 16 different Horizon projects being worked on, a number which resulted in a lot of people wondering if it’s all a bit much.

The weird thing about the Horizon games is how wildly successful they are in terms of numbers, while also rarely ever being talked about. It’s strange to see a series doing so well, and yet culturally speaking the discussion around it always seems muted. But muted or not, you can’t argue with those sales numbers, though 16 projects does seem like overkill.

One of those projects was presumably the recently released Lego Horizon Adventures which turned out to be 100% a game that was released. That’s all I can say about it really. It was kind of bland, and seems to have made no impact in terms of sales. But then again, it didn’t seem to have much of a target audience.

The other recent Horizon release was a remaster of the first game, but we currently don’t know how well it has done.
