As part of Xbox’s ongoing rapid unplanned disassembly (what a timely reference, eh?), the brand casually unleashed Forza Horizon 5 onto PS5 earlier this year, where it has become the best-selling game on the console this year.

That’s according to the folks over at data firm Alinea Analytics. In their most recent newsletter, the company claims that Forza Horizon 5 has now surpassed 3 million copies sold on PS5. They point to the recent 25% sale as a major driving force behind getting it past the 3 million mark.

This makes it the best-selling game on PS5 this year, at least in terms of copies sold, beating out Monster Hunter: Wilds, which Alinea claims to have sold 2.9m copies. Assassin’s Creed: Shadows sits in 3rd at 2m copies sold on PlayStation.

This success comes shortly after Xbox has seemingly gutted Turn 10, the studio behind Forza Motorsport, the original Forza series. Over the years, though, Forza Horizon has gone from being the little spin-off to the overwhelmingly dominant series.

Of course, we do need to keep in mind that the information provided by Alinea may not actually be accurate. As an analytics company, it uses proprietary methods of calculating sales and player numbers, none of which can be verified by us mere mortals. Neither Microsoft or Playground Games has commented on sales.

With that said, Alinea is also used by quite a few publishers and developers. Their data also matches up quite well with official data when it is released.

To put it simply, while not 100% accurate, I think Alinea’s data is likely reasonably close to reality. Close enough for us mortals, anyway.
