Brendan Greene’s PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions has just unveiled a three-game plan that culminates in the launch of one of the most ambitious MMOs ever concocted. Today, the team released a tech demo named Preface: Undiscovered World, an Earth-sized playground that allows users to get a taste of Melba, the team’s in-house studio.

Next, they’ll publish Prologue: Go Wayback!, an open-world survival game with single-player elements that’s dropping in 2025. In a six-minute video released alongside the announcements, Brendan and his team spoke at length about the journey the studio made to get to this point, including making some bold promises about what comes next.

    ‘Billions of Worlds’

Brendan Greene’s team at PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions has managed to redefine and revolutionise what it means to procedurally generate worlds. By utilising the sharpest AI and ML technology, the studio has created a system that can generate vast swathes of land in microseconds.

In the video, which you can see in full below, Brendan explained:

It allows you to have a new map to play on every time you press ‘play’.

We can generate millions, if not billions of maps using our tech.

For the games that are set to be released by the studio, the team at PLAYERUNKNOWN is working on next-generation weather and terrain technology. They envision forming a planet-sized MMO that could one day house millions of active players – but the road to get there is long and there are plenty of hurdles in the way.

PLAYERUNKNOWN is relying heavily on player feedback and community input to shape the future of the studio, the trio of games, and most importantly, the terrain technology.

    Brendan Greene said:

I really want to involve the communtiy early on, becuase this is going to be a five or ten year journey. So, having their input early on and having their opinions and feedback, these are things you have to start early.
