Circana published its video game market highlights for the United States in May 2025, outlining console and software sales during this period. Unsurprisingly, FromSoftware’s Elden Ring Nightreign was the best-selling title, topping charts for PlayStation, Xbox and even PC.
It’s also become the 11th best-selling title of the year to date. Monster Hunter Wilds still rules the roost, followed by The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The other big new release of the month, id Software’s DOOM: The Dark Ages, ranked in 16th place on its debut.
While that may seem catastrophic, the first-person shooter (which became the developer’s biggest launch in history) ranked second in physical and digital sales for PS5 and PC in the US. Despite also launching on day one for Game Pass, it ranked third on Xbox sales charts.
Total projected spending rose by one percent to $4.1 billion year-over-year, but year-to-date trails 2024 by six percent at $21.8 billion.
