Days Gone remaster speculation is heating up again – GPlayr

Earlier this year around the same time that a Horizon Zero Dawn remaster was looking more and more likely, another PlayStation exclusive was heavily rumoured to also get the remaster treatment. That game was Days Gone, the 2019 action-adventure game where you killed zombies and cruised around on a motorbike.

Now, speculation is once again ramping up that the Days Gone remaster is indeed a real thing, not that anyone seems to be excited by the prospect. And really, who can blame them? The game is only half a decade old and has a solid PS5 patch that lets it run at 60FPS. However, that didn’t stop Sony from recently remastering Horizon Zero Dawn, which itself was also a fairly new game that already had a great PS5 patch.

ResetEra user Dex3108 noted that a lot of activity on the Days Gone Steam page has been occurring recently which you can see via SteamDB. Looking at the entries, you can see the activity has actually been going on much longer than that though. In fact, whatever is going on behind the scenes has been happening for the last 14 months or so. Before that, there’s a reasonably large gap where nothing was happening.

It has also been noted that the game is currently at a discounted price on Steam, with the sale ending on December 12, the same date that The Game Awards is due to be aired. Could Sony be gearing up to announce the remaster at the show, or even shadow drop it on all us unsuspecting fools?

However, I feel the need to drop some cold water on the speculation: a glance at God of War’s SteamDB page shows constant activity there too. Likewise, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has heaps of activity on its page over the last few days, weeks and months. Returnal is a little quieter, but still has a reasonable amount of changes. The point is, I don’t see anything which indicates Days Gone’s level of activity is anything unusual when compared against other Sony titles.

All of that being said, I’m inclined to believe that a Days Gone remaster is indeed being worked on, given how reliable the people who previously discussed it are, and the fact that Horizon Zero Dawn’s remaster turned out to be very real. I just don’t think the SteamDB activity is compelling evidence for it.

Finally, I assume if the remaster is real it will be much like the Horizon Zero Dawn one, with potential customers being offered a £10 upgrade. If true, I might actually do it because I actually enjoyed the hell out of the game, although I absolutely agree that I’d rather see the resources used to develop this and the Horizon remaster used elsewhere. Like a Bloodborne remaster. Hint, hint, Sony.
