Back in the mid-to-late 2000s, developer Free Radical Design was working on the third installment of the popular Star Wars Battlefront series for the Nintendo Wii. In 2008, however, Star Wars Battlefront 3 was ultimately cancelled for a variety of he said, she said reasons. Now, 16 years later, Star Wars Battlefront 3 gameplay has leaked online for players to see for themselves.

According to the video, the build was found via the Free Radical Archive. According to them, it comes from a build dated roughly a week before the game’s cancellation.

“This build, made in the final week of development, is full of content that has not been seen before by fans,” they said. “As this game was cancelled during development, there are still bugs and issues which we hope can be resolved through future modding.”

The video below shows both gameplay as well as a recreation of the game’s PC trailer using the Wii build.

First uncovered in 2006, Star Wars Battlefront 3 was the third game in the popular early-2000s series. The game was in development for at least two years before it was cancelled in late 2008. The reasons for the cancellation are unconfirmed, but there have been claims. Free Radical Design co-founder Steve Ellis believes it was, in part, due to the fact that LucasArts didn’t want to “spend big” on the game’s marketing. On the other side of things, an unnamed LucasArts employee claimed the developers had regularly missed deadlines, burning goodwill with the publisher.
