The PlayStation Network went down for around 20 hours over the weekend, leaving all of us facing the horror that is real life. Have you seen it out there? It’s mental. The good news is that the network is back up and running, as indicated by the official status site, although there are still some people claiming to be having issues logging on, playing games or using the store.

PlayStation itself remained quiet as the network crashed, with only a few support accounts acknowledging the problem. Now, though, Sony has announced that people will be getting some compensation for the event.

Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service.

Every PS Plus member will get five free days of PlayStation Plus, said the AskPlayStation X account, who also apologised for the inconvenience. The extra days will be automatically credited to your account.

Still, we are left with some questions, such as what the actual cause of the outage was. While this might not seem important, people are concerned that the cause was some sort of hacking event or other intrusion that could have led to personal data being compromised. These are valid concerns in today’s world where companies hold a lot of sensitive data.
