A New Thief Game Has Been Announced, But It’s For VR – GPlayr

It has been over a decade since the last Thief game was released and I think just about everyone had assumed the series to be dead at this point. And yet here we are, with a new Thief game being announced at State of Play! But there’s a catch: it’s for PlayStation VR2.

The new game, set to arrive later this year, stars a young orphaned thief by the name of Magpie who steals to survive. She accidentally uncovers a legendary artifact which speaks in what sure sounds a lot like the voice of Garrett.

“Brought to you by Vertigo Games, the award-winning creators of Metro Awakening and Arizona Sunshine, in close collaboration with Eidos-Montréal, Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow is currently in development by Maze Theory and marks the long-awaited return of the legendary Thief franchise,” says the blurb. “Fans of the original series will feel right at home, while newcomers will experience the thrill of stealth and heists in a fresh new light. “

The trailer shows off how players can crouch down to hide, extinguish light, sneakily grab stuff off of a guard’s belt and pick locks, all in VR. It honestly does look like a lot of fun.
