The Old Country Sales Are Reasonable Thus Far – GPlayr

Mafia: The Old Country (review coming soon) has launched to a decent critical reception and what seems to decent sales so far.

These sales numbers are not official, so take them with a pinch of salt, but according to Sensor Tower the game’s sales are currently tracking at around 800,000 copies sold. The firm believes around 48.6% of those copies sold have been on PlayStation, with Steam contributing another 37.8%. Xbox numbers are rather small – 13.4%.

Let’s give these stats some extra context, shall we? The first Mafia clocks in 3 million copies sold. Mafia 2 sits at a cool 5 million, while Mafia 3 is the Don of the series at 7 million. Once you include the Definitive Editions, the publisher claims a total of 34 million Mafia games have been sold. There’s obviously a discrepancy there, because including Definitive Editions the grand total is about 19.1 million.

It’s hard to judge how well Mafia: The Old Country is doing at this point because we don’t know its development budget. Given the lower price-tag of just $49.99, it was likely made for a small amount, so it shouldn’t need to sell insane copies to turn a profit.

Still, 800,000 feels a little soft for the series. Hopefully, Mafia: The Old Country will have a good tail.
