New Witcher 3 DLC Rumored from CD Projekt Red And Fool’s Theory – GPlayr

CD Projekt Red’s “unannounced” project with Fool’s Theory may not be so mysterious after all. According to a very reliable Polish Youtuber with over a million subscribers, the two studios are working on a brand-new, story-driven DLC for The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt — and yes, this is happening ten years after the game’s original release.

Please note, all quoutes below were acquired using Youtube’s own transcription and then run through translation software. As such, it may not be 100% accurate.

“It turns out that the mysterious, unannounced project by CD Projekt Red being developed by Fool’s Theory is a story-driven DLC for The Witcher 3.”

“This information has been confirmed by several independent sources.”

The report comes from reliable Polish gaming insider Remigiusz Maciaszek (video above) who has been sitting on the info for a while, waiting for more substantial confirmation. That came during CDPR’s recent quarterly results, where they mentioned a collaboration with Fool’s Theory on an unannounced project — enough to get the wheels turning.

“For me, a key moment was CD Projekt mentioning during their quarterly results that they’re working on an unannounced project with Fool’s Theory,” Remigiusz Maciaszek said.

“At first, I couldn’t believe it — it sounded so abstract.”

But in hindsight, it’s not that outlandish. The Witcher 3 recently got a next-gen update and continues to sell well nearly a decade after launch. In fact, it just recently topped 60 million copies sold, putting it in a very elite class. A new DLC, even this late in the game, makes a lot of business sense.

“Now, a very important thing: we need to separate what we do know from what we don’t know,” said Remigiusz.

“We know that this is DLC for The Witcher 3.”

As for what’s next, the timeline is reportedly already sketched out. First come mod tools for consoles – which we got very recently – then this Witcher 3 DLC, followed by The Witcher 4, and eventually the Witcher 1 remake which has been rumoured for ages.

“We know the order: first the console mods, then the Witcher 3 DLC, then The Witcher 4, and then the Witcher 1 Remake,” Remigiusz stated.

Almost nothing is known about the story DLC, but Remigiusz and his co-host speculate that it will likely be a bridge between the events of The Witcher 3 and the upcoming Witcher 4 in which Ciri is the main character.

“I bet this DLC will tease or steer us toward The Witcher 4 in some way — as marketing for the new game.”

As for the developer’s, Fool’s Theory is no stranger to Geralt’s world. In fact, it was founded by some of the core developers behind The Witcher 3, including lead quest designer Jakub Rokosz, who was responsible for the fan-favourite “Ice Giant” quest.

No official announcement has been made by CD Projekt Red yet, and with anything like this, a pinch of salt is recommended — but given the calibre of the team, and the studio’s continued investment in the Witcher IP, this is an exciting prospect. If true, The Witcher 3 may be getting one last ride into battle — and it could even be Geralt’s big last hurrah before he officially hands the silver sword over to Ciri. Although Geralts ending has already happened in the Blood and Wine expansion, so this is likely to be something like a look at how Ciri’s got her new powers – and lost her old ones.
