Nintendo Offers Solutions For Switch 2 Bug Causing Incorrect Battery Indicator

With many gamers having gotten their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 since the console’s June 5 launch, some of the system’s software issues are seemingly becoming clearer. Some Switch 2 owners have reported an issue with the console where the battery indicator on the console when being used in handheld mode shows incorrect data. Nintendo, for its part, has provided a few solutions to what it is referring to as a software problem.

As caught by IGN, Nintendo has provided steps through its support pages where Switch 2 owners can access the console’s recovery mode in order to force its battery level measurement hardware to sync up with its software. To do this, the company suggests that players should download the latest system update for the Switch 2, keep the console plugged in, power it off completely, and then boot up into the recovery mode by holding the volume up and volume down keys while pressing the power button.

According to Nintendo, the mere act of getting to the recovery mode screen should be enough to fix the incorrect battery indicator in the Switch 2’s home screen. After, this, the console’s owner can simply power it off and boot it up again like normal.

In case this method of forcing the battery indicator software to sync up through the recovery mode doesn’t help, Nintendo has also provided a more convoluted set of instructions that will involve the console owner repeatedly power cycling their Switch 2, charging it up to 100 percent and draining its battery down to 0 percent “several times”. As part of these instructions, the battery charge indicator in the Switch 2 will see gradual improvements until it starts becoming more accurate once the steps are repeated several times.

The Switch 2 has seen an incredibly successful console launch over the weekend. According to a recent report, Nintendo saw its biggest UK launch in its history with the Switch 2, making the new console its fastest selling one in the region so far. While raw figures haven’t yet been revealed, the report said that the Switch 2 surpassed the previously fastest-selling Nintendo system in the UK market, the Nintendo 3DS, which had sold around 113,000 units at launch. The Nintendo 3DS was tied with the original Switch in the UK.

During an earnings report, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that the company is expecting to sell 15 million units of the Switch 2 in the console’s first year in the market. The forecast, by Furukawa’s own admission, is a conservative one, owing to the higher price of the new console when compared to its predecessor.

“Since the Switch 2 is priced higher than the original Switch, we recognize that there will be considerable hurdles in achieving the console’s widespread adoption in the early stages,” he said.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is currently available alongside a host of launch-day titles, including first-party games like Mario Kart World. For more details, check out our review of the Nintendo Switch 2.
