Development is nearing completion on shoot ’em up revival Truxton Extreme, which will be available for PC alongside its previously announced PlayStation 5 version, publisher THQ Nordic Japan and developer Tatsujin announced. A demo will be available for PC as part of Steam Next Fest: June 2025 Edition from June 10 to 17.

Truxton Extreme is the first all-new entry in the Truxton series, known as Tatsujin in Japan, in 37 years. It was originally announced in September 2023 with a 2024 release window, but was delayed to an unannounced date.

    Here are the latest details:

Exhilarating for All! Play Across Various Modes

Truxton Extreme is equipped with a variety of game modes that allow anyone to enjoy the exhilaration of a shoot ’em up, such as the series’ first-ever Story Mode, where players can enjoy a grand story depicting life-or-death battles and human drama in outer space, along with the ever-familiar Arcade Mode and more.

The Story Mode offers a greater sense of immersion with the newly developed “Interactive Digital Comic” system, where lively interactive scenes unfold within comic panels, offering a new experience that fuses shoot ’em up gameplay with comics. In Arcade Mode, players can enjoy endlessly looping, thrilling gameplay while aiming for the high score.

When you defeat enemies, “Pipiru Aliens” will appear, and collecting many of them allows you to develop your very own “Pipiruville.”

By playing repeatedly, your ship levels up, and you will discover something new each time—like gimmicks that can be destroyed using specific weapons at certain locations—offering a new experience to both first-time players and godlike shoot ’em up veterans alike.

Enter the New Age that Fuses Digital Comic with Game

In Truxton Extreme, players can simultaneously enjoy a massive “Interactive Digital Comic” specially developed for integration with the shoot ’em up gameplay.

    Story

In a future where humanity has expanded its frontier to seven Earth-like planets… mankind was living peacefully—until it was suddenly attacked by an alien civilization. With its military system long abolished, humanity lost all seven of its colony planets in the invasion. In an effort to restore its defenses, humanity completed the development of an advanced tactical fighter. However, the system was not designed for a living pilot—it required the pilot to abandon their physical body.

Would anyone be willing to make such a sacrifice…? To reclaim the seven lost colony planets and protect Earth from the threat of alien invaders, the heroes who chose this harsh path came to be revered by the people. They were called… “Tatsujin.”
