Hidetaka Miyazaki has revealed more information about FromSoftware’s upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods, including details about multiple playable characters, extensive character customization and more.
The Duskbloods Will Feature Multiple Playable Characters
Nintendo’s new blog post features an interview with FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki. The interview discusses the upcoming exclusive for Switch 2, The Duskbloods. While explaining the game’s characters and settings, Miyazaki stated that the game’s protagonists or characters that the player controls are called Bloodsworn.
These Bloodsworn are similar to Vampires but not something players would relate to traditional vampirism. Miyazaki added that there are “over a dozen characters” that players can choose from, with each having their own identity, weapons, and appearance. Each character can be customized to a certain extent, allowing players to build unique builds.
Bloodsworn possesses superhuman abilities, with amplified sprinting, super jump, and double jump. Miyazaki stated that The Duskbloods’ actions are more dynamic than “dramatic than anything seen in our previous titles”. The Bloodsworn are competing for the First Blood at the “Twilight of Humanity.” There is no fixed era, so players might find traditional Gothic- or Victorian-style maps.
The Duskbloods Extensive Character Customisation
Players can alter a character’s blood history and fate, allowing you to customize abilities, appearance, inner characteristics, roles, and relationships with other characters. So, players can change their characters cosmetically and gameplay-wise to fine-tune their playstyle to suit them better.
Roles that lead to Player-based Interactions
When asked about something Miyazaki would like to discuss, he mentioned the ‘roles’ in Duskbloods. Roles are special responsibilities and objectives that players will have in online play. These will lead to unique interactions and relationships between players. Miyazaki provided examples of two roles so that players could better understand these features.
Miyazaki’s first mention was ‘Destined Rivals’, where players must seek out and defeat their designated rival. ‘Designated Companion’, on the other hand, will have players find other players, turn them into allies, and provide players with a special reward. Miyazaki added that these roles can be “assigned to any character via blood customization, allowing players to enjoy role-playing in a literal sense”.
FromSoftware’s Focus is Not Shifting to Multiplayer
With games like Elden Ring: Nightreign and The Duskbloods being the next releases from FromSoftware, some players have started wondering whether single-player games will be sidelined. However, during the same interview, Miyazaki confirmed that the company hasn’t” decided to shift to a more multiplayer-focused direction with titles going forward.” They still “intend to actively develop single-player focused games.”
