Fallout 4 Was ‘Explored For Switch Some Years Ago’, It’s Claimed

It has been claimed that Bethesda Game Studios was once ‘exploring’ bringing Fallout 4 to Nintendo Switch. This report surfaced on Resetera recently, coming courtesy of an insider by the name of Imran Khan, who has high ratings per the Gaming Leaks and Rumours subreddit.

He suggested that Pete Hines himself, the man who recently retired from a 24-year career at Bethesda Game Studios, was informing publications to ‘prep a story’ for an impending announcement.

    In Our Dreams

Fallout has never made it to a Nintendo platform, except for Fallout Shelter on Nintendo Switch. This is always seen as a shortcoming by fans worldwide, as the introduction of an older title, such as Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas seems to write itself. After all, Skyrim graced the Nintendo Switch years ago, and that did very well for itself.

In a throwaway comment on Restera, Imran Khan wrote a revelation, suggesting that we came very close to having a Fallout 4 port on Nintendo Switch:

This was explored for Switch some years ago. To the point where Hines told my boss at the time to expect it, who then had me prep a story. Never came to fruition, though.

Fans of the iconic post-apocalyptic franchise have always pleaded with Bethesda Game Studios to release something like a ‘legacy collection’ of first-person Fallout titles on Nintendo Switch – or a remastered trilogy, period. How well do you think a triple-pack featuring Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4 would do?

In 2018, Pete Hines declared Bethesda’s Switch releases as ‘hugely popular’, and in the same year, he spoke about the firm’s plans for ‘Switch versions’ of games, explaining:

It’ll just depend. It’ll depend on whether or not we think the game is a good fit for the platform technically and whether we think it’s something that audience wants on Switch. In that way, it’s literally no different than any other platform that we look at or any other game that we do.

Hopefully, it’ll be a mix of both. If there’s stuff that folks want us to release on Switch and it’s a good fit and it works – great. If it’s new stuff going forward that we think is a good fit and will work on Switch, then we’ll do that too.

This could be around the same time that, as Imran Khan explains, Bethesda was ‘exploring’ introducing Fallout 4 to the Nintendo Switch platform.
